Artist Statment

Through the rhythmic motion of weaving, printing, knitting, and other fabric-based techniques, my art becomes a meditative practice that connects me to both the past and the future. My art has taught me to treasure the natural world and has given me a deeper appreciation for the objects that surround us, as they are all rooted in traditional craft practices, from the clothes we wear to the tables we work at and the cups we drink from.

I make chiefly cloth-based pieces as well as baskets. I use natural fibers, ranging from wool to cotton, and include some found items. I use dyes, both natural and synthetic, and a range of markmaking techniques from shibori to screen printing. My current work focuses on explorations of color on textured cloth, learning complex woven structures, and creating work that emphasizes the materiality of cloth. Through my practice, I aim to instill reverence for the items around us, helping us consume less and appreciate the world we have made.
